Nicolas Chevaillier collects passports like others collect stamps. Born in Germany to a French father and an American mother, he is now deeply rooted in an Indian family as well – he writes in German, French, and English, and, with co-authors, also in Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, and Tamil. Whether film or series, thriller or something entirely different: Nicolas is genre-agnostic and has consistently built his career where different worlds collide – Germany, France, the U.S., and India.
He studied screenwriting and directing in Los Angeles and is a graduate of Serial Eyes at the DFFB – Europe’s leading postgraduate program for series writers and showrunners. He feels at home in the writers’ room, whether as a head writer or staff writer. For him, screenwriting is a collaborative craft – and the best results come from the productive friction between art and commerce.
Nicolas’s path to screenwriting was a winding one. He started out as an animator and motion designer for the U.S. television industry, then took a bold leap: a micro-budget mockumentary, which he wrote, produced, and directed himself. Victor’s History won awards in New Orleans and Mumbai – and the Mumbai premiere opened a door that changed Nicolas’s life. He stayed, wrote, and built a career at some of India’s most exciting production companies and streaming platforms – creating series and films for Disney+, Audible, and Amazon Prime Video.
What interests him as a writer: cultural exchange, class dynamics, and endings that don’t resolve everything. The kind of conclusion that is cathartic – yet still leaves you wanting more. As a true-crime junkie and passionate researcher, he approaches every project with the instinct of a plotter.
When he’s not writing, you’ll find him in the basement, where he’s tinkering with his homemade meads – or working with his daughter on BOOK IN A NOOK, an animated YouTube children’s series with over 12 million views.
